BOOKS – THEOLOGY – LIFE

Majesty in Misery (3 Volumes) – Charles Spurgeon

The 3 volumes presented here by Banner of Truth form an essential part of any Christian’s library. Majesty in Misery is a collection of sermons by Charles Spurgeon spanning from the Passover Meal during Passion Week up to the moment of Christ’s death on the cross. There are 63 sermons total between the 3 volumes and all seek to glorify our Lord and Savior as he met immense and eternal suffering and agony in these few long days of His earthly life and ministry. The text has been reset in a more modern and readable format from other volumes that contain small and hard to read text.

The first volume includes sermons centering on the Passover Meal, Christ’s experience in the garden of Gethsemane, and his betrayal. The second volume focuses on the persecution and judgments from governing officials leading up to his crucifixion. And the third volume includes sermons on the death of Christ itself.

Charles Spurgeon has been widely loved by many Christians and these sermons help one understand why. His depth of love for his Savior is evident on every page, as well as his desire for all to know the love of Christ themselves and the lengths that Christ went to redeem them for His own.

The books are beautiful themselves, as is every Banner of Truth publication. You would do well to include this set in your library and be captivated by the Love of our Savior to the point of utter and eternal misery for our sakes. You will not regret being overwhelmed with worship and awe for the Majestic One as he faced Misery on all sides to draw us to Himself.
